Carly Urban

Hello! I am Professor of Economics at Montana State University, a research fellow at the Institute for Labor Studies (IZA), a fellow at the TIAA Institute, and a faculty affilate at the Center for Financial Security at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  My research focuses broadly on how public policies influence individual behavior. In addition to conducting research, I love talking to policymakers and practitioners about research findings. I am particularly interested in 4 larger umbrellas of questions:

• What types of financial education improve financial behaviors and for whom?

• How do social safety net policies affect household behaviors, and how do policies interact?

• How do vulnerable households respond to policies related to housing and mortgages?

• How do political landscapes affect policy and economic outcomes?
